Snowsports In Obergurgl

Even though Obergurgl has no glacier it is widely recognised as Austria's most snowsure resort. Its exceptionally long season can, in a good season, start in mid November and run through until early May. Resorts like Lech have a lot more snow but Obergurgl's snow lasts longer thanks in part to its altitude and also its position in the central alps.

Skiing

Beginners – This is the ideal base for beginners with plenty of blue runs, some rising to almost 3000m with spectacular views. The gentle run under the gondola from the mid station of the Hohe Mut gondola to the village is ideal to move on to. The easy broad slopes served by the Bruggenboden chair are also convenient leading on to easy longer slopes.

Intermediates – Pistes on the Festkogel and Gaisberg in Obergurgl are mainly above the tree line and lead right down to the village. There are some perfect intermediate runs with the terrain made even better by the normally flattering snow conditions. The Obergurgl area has more red than blue runs but most offer no challenge to a confident intermediate. There is some easy cruising around mid-mountain on Festkogl. The blue run from the top of this sector to the village, via the Hohe Mut sector, is 1100m vertical. And there’s another long enjoyable run down the length of the gondola, with a scenic black run and ski route variant in the adjoining valley.

On Hohe Mut, there are very easy runs in front of Nederhütte and back towards the village. The enjoyable winding red run from Hohe Mut offers a great challenge but beware as it can be narrow in places.

Advanced – There are a number of both red & blacks. The ski routes are most challenging, particularly the one from Hohe Mut. There are a lot of easy off-piste, slopes around the Kirchenkar draglift are great for untracked powder early in the morning.

Snowboarding

Beginners can access most of the slopes without having to ride draglifts.

There is some good off-piste potential for more advanced riders and also snowboard park.
