A Classic scenic winter train journey the iconic Glacier Express links two of the world's big name ski resorts, Zermatt in Valais and fashionable St Moritz in Graubünden. En route the Glacier Express glides through Andermatt, in Uri, one of the newest resorts. Panoramic carriages invite in spectacular views of snow capped mountain peaks and sparkling white valleys dotted with picture postcard wooden chalets. Then you catch your breath as you cross the immense Landwasser Viaduct, whilst climbing from the Rhine Gorge high over the Oberalp Pass.

The slowest express train in the world, the Glacier Express departs daily taking under 8 hours, with a leisurely lunch served onboard. This tour can be taken in either direction and an optional extension is to stop for a few nights to ski or ride Andermatt before continuing on your journey.

  • Day 1

    Zurich to St Moritz

Hotel: 4* Nira Alpina, St Moritz Breakfast

Arrive into Zurich and take the train directly to the elegant resort town of St Moritz (3hrs 30 min) and check into your hotel for the next 4 nights.

  • Days 2 - 4

    Ski St Moritz

Hotel: 4* Nira Alpina, St Moritz Breakfast

Ski the peaks and pistes of St Moritz, in the Graubünden, for the next 3 days. St Mortiz also hosts more unusual events like the Snow Polo World Cup and Cricket on ice. Then in February racehorses compete in St Moritz's most famous spectacle, the White Turf race on the frozen Lake St. Moritz.

  • Day 5

    Glacier Express Journey

Hotel: 5* Cervo Mountain Boutique Resort, Zermatt Breakfast

Board the Glacier Express for your panoramic journey to Zermatt, or Andermatt if you opt for 3 ski resorts in one holiday. The red and white train carries you through more than 90 tunnels and across 290 bridges, including a crossing of the 400 meter deep Rhine Gorge. It also climbs up and over the 2033 metre Oberalp Pass, its highest altitude climb. You won't miss a thing as the entire journey can be viewed from the observation carriages. En route enjoy lunch from the three course menu or select the dish of the day. On arrival in Zermatt check into your hotel for a further 4 nights.

It is not all about the Matterhorn however as the views include no less than 28 other summits over 4000 metres. Europe's highest aerial cableway lifts you to the Klein Matterhorn and a 3883 metre high observation platform with views of the Matterhorn Glacier. Then ski over the international border and sample real italian Pizza in the Italian ski resort of Cervinia, included on the same lift ticket.
