ALBERTA ROCKIES SELF-DRIVE

 

In the Alberta Rockies you ski the big 4 of Alberta's ski resorts surrounded by Rocky Mountain scenery. Starting with Lake Louise ski area, then onto Marmot Basin, finishing in Banff to ski both Mt Norquay and Sunshine Village. On this self-drive tour you take the scenic Iceland Parkway, linking Banff National Park and Jasper National Park. This private tour is ideal for families and any skiier looking to try the best of Alberta's Rocky Mountain skiing. This suggested tour itinerary is designed to give you a sense of what is possible. We tailor-make each holiday to your specific requirements so add or remove nights to suit you. Variants on the itinerary might involve a flight into Edmonton and departure from Calgary.

  • Day 1

    Calgary to Lake Louise

    Hotel: 5* Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, Lake Louise Breakfast

    Fly into Calgary with an afternoon arrival, collect your car and head up into the Rockies and the Banff National Park for Lake Louise (2 1/2 hours). Fairmont's Chateau Lake Louise is a luxurious base from which to ski Lake Louise Ski Area. Stay 3 nights or extend your stay here.
  • Days 2 - 3

    Ski Lake Louise

    Hotel: * , Breakfast

    Two full days to ski Lake Louise Ski Area, the largest single resort in Alberta. This Rocky Mountain resort has varied terrain to suit everyone in a mixed ability group and Lake Louise’s two mountains offer stunning views. If you extend this part of your stay you could add a side trip to ski Kicking Horse for the day, over the border in BC (45min drive).

  • Days 4 - 6

    Ski Jasper

    Hotel: 5* Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, Jasper Breakfast

    This morning your drive takes you from Banff National Park up into Jasper National Park (3hrs) and to the small resort of Jasper and 3 nights at the Jasper Park Lodge. Your have 2 full days of skiing or riding at nearby Marmot Basin ski area.

  • Day 7

    Drive the Icefields Parkway

    Hotel: 5* Fairmont Banff Springs, Banff Breakfast

    The road that links Jasper and Banff is known as the Icefields Parkway. Lined on both sides with rocky peaks and glaciers. In summer the glaciers stand out blue against the rock but in ski season everything is white, including the sprinkling of frozen lakes. There's wildlife here too, much hidden but take your time and a pair of binoculars. This drive can be done in under 4 hours but you should expect to take at least 5 hours to allow for photo opportunities. On arrival check into the Banff Springs for 3 or more nights.

  • Days 8 - 9

    Ski Banff

    Hotel: 5* Fairmont Banff Springs, Banff Breakfast

    Banff National Park boasts stunning scenery with big impressive mountains cloaked in light powder snow. Banff itself is a lively town and a great place to round off your tour of Alberta's Rocky Mountain Ski Resorts with skiing at Sunshine Village and Mount Norquay. Relax and let your hair down and take in some of Banff's range of bars and restaurants.

  • Day 10

    Banff to Calgary

    Hotel: * ,

    Spend the morning skiing or do a little shopping, if you have the bag space. This afternoon drive from Banff down into Calgary (1hr 15min) and to the Calgary Airport for your your flight home or stay a night and take in an ice hockey match. As your flight takes off watch the Rockies from the window and you'll promise yourself that you'll be back to ski Alberta's Rocky Mountain ski resorts, next season.
